Onboard Water pump

I have a Bailey Senator Indiana which I am really happy with apart from one thing, a very noisy water pump. When we were on holiday recently we were reluctant to use the pump late at night or early morning for fear of disturbing others as we felt it was that loud. I have spoken to other Bailey owners, read posts on here and it seems that this is the norm for this pump. Has anyone changed their onboard pump, perhaps to a different make or made any modifications such as adding extra rubber below the pump and has it made any difference. Thanks.

I have the Louisiana and felt the same about the noisy pump notwithsanding a notice in the caravan saying that it was fitted with "a new quieter pump"

However, whilst the pump was running I manipulated its position and found that a fair amount of the noise was vibration and that tightening the fixing screws reduced the noise considerably.

There have been lots of postings on the forum about the noisy pump in the latest Senators. I got mine last September and almost immediately modified the pump by placing 4 rubber door stops between the pump and the floor. It seems that the floor acts as a sounding board and insulating one from the other made a lot of difference.

Whale Pumps informed me that placing the pump vertically will also make a difference and I believe that the very latest Senators have this type of arrangement. It isn't possible to reposition the old type of pump without a special bracket.

With regard to Joby's comment about it costing

Had the same problem with my new Bessacarr. Replaced pump under warranty. No better, then Swift fitted a pressure reduction device and although not perfect it is a lot better.

Are you using it from the tank .

We always use from the tank and don't find it intrusive but as stated above I have removed the screws that hold the pump down

Many thanks to those who have taken the time to reply. I have tried some of the suggestions made with varying degrees of success. The problem seems to be that it is basically a very noisy pump, when unscrewed from the floor and operated, I can hold the pump in my hand and feel very little vibration but it is still quite noisy. I did try and tighten the four screws which hold the pump to the floor but found that tightening them just drove them through the rubber bracket, I removed them and added washers before re-tightening them and have found that has helped a little. The link to the forum thread about the non-return valve was interesting, I will have a look for that but I'm not too sure exactly what the return valve will look like and don't want to remove the wrong part. I have also wedged pieces of sponge under the pump to try and absorb any vibration but didn't notice any difference with this. The noise seems to be worst immediately after the tap is turned off, when the pump continues to run for a very short time and makes a real racket. For many years I kept aquariums all of which had either internal or external water pumps for filtration, these were very quiet unless a fault developed in the impeller wheel, they then made a noise very similar to what this pump is making. I don't know if the internal workings of caravan pumps is similar to aquarium pumps or not.The caravan dealer is more than happy to check it out for me under warranty but is fairly certain there is no fault with the pump.

Thanks for your comments.

Robert
