how old is your VW sharan?

Only asking because if it was 6 or 7 years old, then it could be

the radiator.

They do not neccesarly leak, but with age the cooling fins

can become damaged/old, not always easy to tell as they don't

always fall away.

Disregard if you vw is only 2 or 3 years old, as highly unlikely.

modern air/cons do trip the fans on/off, so they are working.

O2 model. like i said doubt its the rad then.

you mentioned that the car had been looked at?

I assume they let it get upto 95/98 degrees? or whatever the

temp it needs to get to. to get the fans to kick in?

I assume this is only a problem when towing?

Easy way to check the fans are working, is to go for a 15 minute

drive, leave aircon off. Find out at what temp the fan/s should

kick in, then leave it ticking over on the driveway.

Watch the temp, and wait and see if the fan kicks in.

this way you will prove or disprove if its fan related.

Note most fans have two speeds, the first one may come on at 93/95 degrees [ the book should telll you, or try a vw forum]

then the second fan or second speed may come on 3/5 degrees

later.

sometimes it can be that the first speed/fan or the second speed/fan is not working.

Either way you should be able to eliminate or prove that the fans are not/are ok.
