Over wintering

Just used the caravan for the last time until March/April. What do I need to do to prepare for the winter? I've got moisture crystals and I'll stand the cushions on end. But what else. Don't really want to take the battery out if I can help it as it's too heavy for me to carry. Is it essential? The water tank is empty but I've read about draining the pipes - How? I've also read about taking the taps off. The caravan will be in outside storage in the south where it doesn't usually get too cold and it will be booked in for a service in January. Can anyone advise me please.

Hi,

No need to take the taps off just set them at the mid way point between hot and cold and open them. Make sure the hot water heater drain is open and empty the Thetford pink tank too. I keep my outlets closed as it stops mice and creepies going in. Open all cupboards etc. It would be best to take the batery out and keep it charged at home as a low battery can freeze. Otherwise keep it charged about once a month on the van. I WD40 all locks to keep water out and prevent freezing and wipe all window seals with Armorall. Fenewicks overwintering fluid provides a waxy coat to the van which reduces the algae growth and black streaks. If I am not using the van over winter I take of the wheels and store them in the shed at home wrapped in sheets and Armorall the tyers. Anorak or what!
