Overnight Heating

Hiya

We have a Lunar Clubman with a Truma heater - is it advisable (and safe) to run this during the night to keep the chill off the van - we were in Wales in early October and the nights where very cold and it's only going to get colder now.

Thanks in advance

As long as the heater has been properly serviced and maintained it is perfectly safe to run all night, on gas or electric.

Hello Julie & Stuart

I concur absolutely with Damian's response, however perhaps a little explanation will also help to settle any fears.

First of all let me ask a question - Why would a heater be dangerous at night but not during the day?

Basically if an appliance is dangerous it would be potentially dangerous at all times, but in the case of Truma, and Carver heaters they are designed to be room sealed. This means that all the gas and air for combustions is contained in a tube whose ends are only open to the air outside the caravan. All you get inside the caravan is heated air from the skin of the tube.

Just as during the day you must make sure than nothing blocks the heaters grills.

But as with any appliance it does need regular inspection and servicing if necessary. Only a competent gas fitter can do this, so it is important to make sure the caravan is serviced regularly.
