Thinking of going to Holland in August and wonder if there is any facility for an overnight stop at the docks when reaching Holland? With thanks.

H1 been to Holland via the Hook many times but have not seen any overnight parking, Is there a reason that you want to park? there are some nice sites less than 20 mins from the dock even the popular Koningshof at Rijnsberg. is only 45 mins away but there are some nearer

Hi,

I work for part of the year in Rotterdam (actually between Rotterdam and Delft), and rarely visit the "Hoek" on any commutes - but I'd echo Rick's comments - there's nowhere sensible to park.

There are plenty of campsites with 30 minutes of the port - like "Camping De Duinpan", "Jagtveld" "De Molenslag" - but many of these are large beach sites, and all will be busy - and may have a minimum nights requirement in high season

"Delftsehout" (just to the east of Delft) is a favourite of many people, also 30 or so minutes from the Hoek.

Likewise, south of the Europoort / Rotterdam there is a wealth of good camp sites.

Questions: What time do you arrive? and where are you heading?

Thank you both for your replies. We originally thought we would be arriving late at night but now find that the time of the ferry is 9.00 a.m. so there will be no problem. We are going to Delfthout and we are trying the all inclusive trip with the CC which we have never done before, so it will be interesting. Thanks again. Chris

Hi Chris,

I don't know if you were following the threads on "going Dutch" at the start of 2007, but:

1. The law in Holland requires you to have the breakaway cable directly attached to a fixed point on the car tow-bar - it must NOT be looped around the tow-ball

Car / caravans arriving at Europoort and Hoek van Holland are checked for compliance - and on the spot fines of Euro 30

2. The towing speed limit in Holland is 80 kph (50mph) - but that's generally not a problem around Rotterdam - the motorway network is usually speed controlled to 100 kph or 80 kph

3. Delftsehout is in a recreation park on the outskirts of Delft - bus to the train station from outside the campsite or an easy walk of 10 or 15 minutes

4. Enjoy your time in Holland - Delft is a bit touristy, but quite vibrant and fun.

5. Don't forget your bicycles.

6. Other places to try - Amsterdam (by train), Rotterdam (by train), Brielle (beautiful old walled town south of the Europoort) - it's where I live when in Holland and has some great restaurants, and south from Brielle down the coast road (N57) over the top of the dykes and sea barrier.

If there's anything you need, let me know and I'll try to pick up some information for you.

Hi Robert

I had not seen this information about Holland, so thank you for pointing out these legal requirements. I will get back to you if anything else occurs to me so thankyou for your help.
