overnight stays near dover port

We have used Hawthorn Farm at Martin Mill several times and it is about 10 mins from the port. The route to the site is quite narrow, with the last bit only single width. The site is set up to accept early departures and late arrivals. We now use the A20, not the A2, to travel to Dover and so the Black Horse Farm Caravan Club site was used last year. These last few miles to the port were done with ease in about 15 mins. Either site is fine. Happy Travels BarryB

We stayed on Hawthorn Farm for a week but wouldn't use it again. Very difficult to get on many of the pitches. Our awning was in a hedge on one side of the pitch, and I had to fight through the hedge on the other side to get to the water barrels. Very tight fit. We were also about 5m away from the main south coast railway line with trains running into the night. Not good with young children trying to sleep. Many pitches were also closed off when when we were there as they were total mud baths.

It would be OK for an overnighter, just be careful where you pitch or you may not get much sleep.

I have stayed at Hawthorn Farm and found it ok. Very clean and there is a pub at the end of the lane which if you are staying for one night is quite handy.

If a CL will do rather than a site, then strongly recommend CC CL at Little Hougham Court Farm, listed under Dover (George & Wendy Stokes). This farm is two minutes from the A20 jnc just outside Dover (the Courtwood/Capel le Ferne/West Hougham exit). You can be at the ferry port in under 10 minutes, with a completely clear run and no bottlenecks to worry about. The CL is well used to late/early arrival/departures for the ferries, so you can get in and out easily without disturbing anyone. Very helpful owners, nice spot (no hook-up), and very handy. Worth a try maybe? Richard.
