Hi, I wonder if anyone can suggest a decent hotel for o/night stop on our way down to Frejus in July. We have quite a large outfit and would sooner stay in a hotel as we want to be off south asap.

I have checked Ibis and Formule 1, but if anyone can recommend a decent B&B or anything I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance

Whereabouts do you want to stay? We stayed in a nice small hotel in the middle of Chalon sure Saone, but parking was difficult. We've also stayed in Avallon at the Hotel du Gare (but years ago, so can't say what it is like now). Your main problem, with a smaller non-chain type Bed and Breakfast or hotel, is going to be parking, especially if you have a large outfit. Formule 1, Balladins, Ibis, type chains (of which there are thousands in France) are probably your best bet as they tend to have secured parking areas. There is a web-site for these chain hotels, but at the moment I can't remember it - someone else probably will. It gives you location, etc., as well as price bracket, and you can book through a central reservation desk for most of them.

Have you ruled out an overnight site stop - lots of French towns have very acceptable municipal sites, which are very cheap and usually very central. They tend to open early morning to 'let you out'. I can recommend lots if you want names/locations.

Val's comment about municipal sites might bear considering. The one at Chalons is geared up for early departures and has good sized pitches. The little snack bar did magic moules mariniers aamongst other things when we were there so no need to cook.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think the moules marinieres have swung it, especially if we can be off early. I know part of the holiday, possibly the best part, is ambling down through France, but we are on a tight timescale this time.

Thanks once again for all your help.

kind regards

Valerie

Valerie......forgive my confusion but it has just been pointed out I am going on about the wrong Chalons ( was sur Marne now known as sur Champagne rather than sur Saone) which would be a bit too near Calais for your needs. Profuse apologies.

Good camp site on Auto route south of Orleans junction 3 Nouan la Fuzelier - large site - no need to unhook - used by lots of Brits as overnight stop. Food / bar on site. Good luck Brenda

I agree with Mike, the moules are great! Also there's a huge Carrefour Hypermarket nearby to stock up with all the lovely French food. The site is brilliant. Get there before 6 pm when all the Dutch overnighters arrive. Alan
