Oxford or Cambridge

Hi All

We usually go away for the kids half term in February, but getting stuck on somewhere to go we haven't been before.

However on the shortlist of possibilities is both Oxford & Cambridge. Anybody have a preference and if so why?

Anyone know the best or nearest campsites to either?

Any help or advice to help us choose would be gratefully received

Thanks
John

Are you a member of either or both main caravan clubs? If so do you prefer main sites or 5-van sites. If not member do you want large or small commercial sites?

Both cities have a major downside, they're car-unfriendly so you'd be best to use their park-and-ride schemes.

The countryside round Cambridge is flat, not quite fenland but almost - the Imperial War Museum Duxford is worth a visit, includes a big display of US Air Force aircraft as well as RAF. There's also a big American Military Cemetery at Madingley

Oxford has the Cotswolds nearby, Bourton-on-the-Water is excellent.

Hi we are members of the c&cc. National trust & English heritage. Usually prefer the smaller van sites as usually cheaper but don't mind the main sites if they are more convenient.

We usually aim for a bigger city for the February outing, more in case of inclement weather, history culture, historic houses / buildings museums being a priority. So hopefully lots to see & explore.

Site is usually more based on location, the closer the better to save on travelling or commuting, but price does have an influence if honest.

Always good to visit a new area, thanks for any suggestions to help us choose.
Cheers
John

We have been to both and preferred oxford as there seemed to be that bit more there. We use club sites, the CC at Oxford but C&CC at Cambridge which is better p[laced for the Park and Ride unless this has changed.
The CC site at Blaydon Chains Oxford gives large discounts on Blenheim Palace which is well worth a visit and the discount can cancel out a fair proportion of one nights fee.
If you are going into either I agree use the Park and Ride.

CC &C site at Oxford is open now and right by the park and ride. You can even walk to a Tesco. Not far from the river thames walk either.
