Panic lettuce shortage

Well I heard this "Little Gem" on the "Grapevine". The Chief Buyer of a supermarket chain has been given a "Rocket" over his inability to source sufficient salads and vegetables to meet the insatiable appetite of the British for healthy eating. He was told that if he wanted to "Romaine" in his job he had better sort it out. So believing that "Three Heads" are better than one he called a meeting which decided that he should fly to "Brussels" in the company aircraft, known in-house as "The Courgette" and see what they could do to help. The EU agreed to totally fund some vast greenhouses in "Boston" all to be heated using hot air from UK over this catastrophic event. Hopefully the story has a happy "endive"

Sorry if this wreck what looks to be a nice weekend :)

Apparently because of this shortage people are being restricted to only three lettuceses per person, but why would you want to buy three lettuceses in the first place, are we a nation of Rabbit keepers,

It is to try and stop local businesses like our sandwich shop, takeaway, etc from buying up the stock from the Sainsburys who still do have stock that is cheaper than the wholesalers who if they have stock are more expensive. What stops the local cafes from sending two or thee of their staff out to buy three a piece I don't know.

This new fangled fake news, the meedya here in the UK were showing footage of snow covered crop fields in Espana yesterday, just doesn't stand up to good old fashioned personal observation :p

Then again the entitled generation don't comprehend that the older and wiser, experienced not stupid generation can get their information from other than connected means. I was at a meeting yesterday with company reps of the entitled generation who couldn't believe octogenarians are not on the internet with mobile devices 24/7 and couldn't comprehend establishing public forum in person events to explain why said octogenarians have been ripped off for years on their bills :p Apparently there was no traffic on said companies web site, e-mail, twitter or face ache feed from retired and older people, d'oh :p

Ah Gaffer but you are in Costa Del Sol, and the heaviest rains for 30 years hit Murcia where some 80% of Europe winter salads are grown. Being some 270 miles away you probably missed the really bad weather, but on your way back bring some salad stuff which at current prices will offset the diesel :) .

I would think Gafferbill, aka " His Highness, King of the Woosies . " would probably have a small allotment down on the CdS.

Let's face it most folks wouldn't mind if "salads" (grass!) would disappear for ever, never mind bulk buying. Panic in the extreme. You have to laugh at folks don;t you?

Fully agree Pete. A bit like a pizza. If I never saw one again I wouldn't shed a tear :cheer:

"pizza" somebody once tried to serve me tinned spaghetti hops ,absolutely disgusting and if i was foolish enough to believe that was how pasta's were, i'd never have eaten another pasta dish again.but then i have also been served fish and chips that frankly the less said about the soggy mold of potatoes and the fish so oiled inside the better...and both were from these my shores... gentleman and ladies all i can say is you've never had a decent pizza.

You're probably right Jonny.
But sadly what they call pizza here is over rated and over priced. I guess it must belike a Chinese take away here compared to the real stuff in the Far East.

My Wifes best freind, for over 40 years is Italian, an she does a proper cheese, onion, garlic and tomatoe topping on a thin crusty bread, some call them pizzas,. They qre fantastic. .
Had a work mate from, Malaysia, come over for a week, as soon as we went into our local, " Chinese" out came the chillies, turns out the waiter came from a village 30 clicks from my mate , total diferent and lovely meal. What we eat here in Uk is not euthantic.

Try the Snaills from , Nigeria, !!!

So could be a bit of work there!!!
The old girl is getting better slowly, seems to be a lot of the same problems around our area, we have been to Woodovis park it is lovely, with "The Chip Shop Inn" 20 minutes walk away. So when the old girl is ready off we go before the next bout of decorating. :eek:hmy:
