We are taking the midnight ferry over to Dunkerque and was wondering if anyone had turned back into the arrivals and parked up for the night? much prefer this to a car park somewhere...

When we were there, in May, the port authorities were constructing a huge area for overnight stays (mainly I supposed intended for lorry drivers - and supposedly with 'facilities'), but it was only in the very earliest stages of construction. However, as a result they seemed to have cordoned off all the areas alongisde the exit/entry roads where we'd previously seen people parked up for the night. Maybe someone else who's been more recently could help.

We parked up for the night in the arrivals on the way back in early July. It is where you go if you have to purchase a ticket. I see no reason why you can't park there on the outward journey as well - there is no barrier or check in there.

On the way out we parked in the lorry park (which is on your right as you leave the port) as we have done many times before, and this is a massive area. Don't park next to a refrigerated lorry if you want a good night's sleep!!

The area that Val mentioned is further on, but only in the early stages of development, as she says.
