Passat Estate Kerb Weight

We are lucky enough to have a 54 plate Passat Estate TDi 130 Highline. Now the glossy brochure suggests a kerb weight of 1618kg. But the owners manual suggests a lower figure, but that is based on the engine size, and seems to take no account of the spec/trim level. So which is right and/or how do I find out the true kerb weight without taking the car to a weigh bridge?

Regards

Ian

As no great importance is attached to the exact kerbweight (50kg either way is only going to affect your weight ratio by about 2% to 3%, which is not really very significant), the exact figure is not published anywhere and the only way it can be determined accurately is by putting the car on a weighbridge.

Ian - as Lutz says the best bet is to take the car to a weighbridge. I arranged to have mine weighed at a scrap yard - taking great care to make sure they did'nt try to keep it - and the staff there were fascinated to hear why I wanted to know the kerb weight and the 85% rule etc. The sight of a car where HUGE lorries normally were pulled quite an audience. But 'phone ahead first. Now I have heard that kerb weight, weight of car plus essentials; petrol;, oil etc might have changed to bring us in line with the E.U. and could include driver and passenger too. Anyone on the forum know for sure?

The definition of the kerbweight (officially referred to as mass in running order) is with a 68kg driver and 7kg luggage, all coolants, oils, brake and washer fluids, fuel tank 90% filled and with the spare wheel.

Lutz. Many thanks for that information. However we are soon to set off on holiday with daughter and friend who intend to take eleven pairs of shoes each so even with the added Kg's payload I now realise I now have I may have to sacrifice something. Oven or 'fridge ? That sort of thing.
