From the posting regarding disabled badge parking and the parent/toddler parking I will now take the discussion as tep further.

On the news on BBC TV there was a report that new fathers in Germany were entitled to a one year paternity leave with state handouts whilst on leave. It has been suggested that a similar scheme be introduced in this country. Yet more payment from our caring government to the waster fraternity of this country who would prefer to spend his self in bed with the intention of fathering children and receiving hand outs than go out and do an honest days work.

Brian - alternatively if there was the chance of extra FREE money from the state for fathering children why bother to get a job with all the freebees they have already. Free holidays, free TV, satelite TV, clothing allowance, free milk, mortgage paid, etc. etc. Why get up from bed as the giro is now delivered by post or obtainable by credit card at the Post Office.

Been to Tesco today on my own (did not park in Disabled Bay or Parent & Toddler area) and was served at the checkout with a very pleasant cashier - laughing and smiling all the time. I thought at first it was indigestion but no she was of a pleasnt helpful disposition - Elaine from Cornelly. Give the lady a pay rise if she is like this with all customers.

Lord B. the reaction with the ladies at the checkout in Tesco's is a result of my pleasant personality and the ease in which I can settle any fear of nerve with the fairer sex. PS don't tell the wife about this.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here how it works in Germany. The German government, concerned at the low birth rate, decided to extend the existing maternal leave, to also permit paid paternal leave.

The level of payment is 67% of the previous net income of the parent staying at home. Previously, this was paid for one year after birth. Now this has been extended to 14 months if the father joins in and takes leave too.

I hope that clarifies the point.

Same problem here. The immigrants have a much higher birth rate but the Germans a low one with the ultimate result that Germans would eventually become a minority in their own country. The idea of offering extended leave was to prevent this from happening.

BTW, leave is only paid to one parent, EITHER the father OR the mother.

.... but surely the same benefit will be extended to your immigrants Lutz which will negate the policy.
