Paying for new caravan

This might be a bit of an obvious one, but we are due to collect a brand new caravan this week.

From memobery, the sales rep told us that we had to pay that balance at least 24 hours in advance by bank transfer.

However, looking at the documention, it says that bank transfers are preferred but "Debit Cards on the day of collection are accepted".

Based on this - my thinking is that we want to instpect the new van before we pay the final balance, and if there are any issues that we see, they have to fix them before we pay?

Dealt with same dealer for 50 years and have always inspected new caravans after the PDI, and never ever found anything amiss that requires attention. Then proceeded to office and always payed on Debit card. Felt our dealer has always done thorough PDI so nothing to fault,

If possible I use debit card on the day. We did that recently for the new car and no problems.

I have always used the debit card on day of collection. Never had an issue with doing that.

We have always inspected the caravan before we handed over our debit card. Paid the deposit on debit card as well.
That was 12 years ago though.

Our last 3 new caravans i had to pay the balance (in full) at least a day before collection

We are getting a new one in a couple of weeks and the dealer asked that we pay by bank transfer due to the (now) excessive charges imposed by the banks if we use a debit card.

I will pay them by transfer when we collect it - after all it is usually immediate.

Not that I expect it will issue very often, and I'm not suggesting this tactic should be applied without very serious consideration, If you pay in full in advance of collecting it. it doesn't change the way the Consumer Rights Act will consider it. The Act considers the close of contract for a purchase as the time when the seller has received the full payment AND the customer has possession of the goods or services to the full satisfaction of all parties.

Consequently if you pay the day before and you get to the sellers premises and the goods are not to the agreed specification or standard, you can still legitimately reject the goods.
