Excellent article about some of my favourite sites and places.

I'm just a bit concerned that there is a suggestion, indirectly maybe, that the Bealach na Ba is ok for touring caravans. Christine and Alisdair Lyle say the recommended route is the coast road but this time we decided to "go over the top".

Did they tow their caravan on this Highland Pass to Applecross Campsite??

Personally I've only been over this pass solo. There are signs saying it is not suitable for caravans , ( I don't think it is a mandatory ban , more advisory).

What's the general view of others on towing up this road?

What does Nigel Donnelly think?

Cheers

Alan

youd have to be mad to tow up there. I thought they drove it

solo. Also its not the UKs highest road .

The Applecross Pass is the highest UK road, followed by the Kirkstone Pass in Cumbria, Devils Elbow near Balmoral in Scotland, and then the Spittal of Glenshee.

Dear All,

Glad you enjoyed Christine and Alisdair's report on their trip. I can't comment on their chosen route but Alisdair has a pretty convincing tug, knows the area and is a responsible chap.

Despite this however, I'm pleased to report that he and Christine had already deposited their Swift Conqueror on the site before they tackled the Applecross pass.

Hope that clears things up

Regards

The 'Pass of the Cattle' up to Applecross is one of our favourite roads and we have had many picnics on the grass by the beach at Applecross Bay, such a wonderful area of Scotland. Wouldn't go that way with the caravan though.

I stand corrected Wendy.

And we'll be there in May! Last time we went over the pass the weather had closed in and there was no view at the top at all. However,we had a nice lunch in Applecross, and then made our way along the coast road back to Kinlochewe.....what a lovely day out that was.

Hi Nigel

Many thanks for clarifying matters.

The Daily Telegraph recently voted the Applecross Inn as one of the best places for a pub meal in the British Isles.

The views from the top of the Bealach na Ba are , just , breathtaking!!!!

Cheers

Alan
