Peeling internal 'laminate' on old Avondale?

Can anyone offer any suggestions for 'touching up' the laminate on wardrobe doors/drawers etc on a 1991 Avondale Perle please?

Ours is peeling in places and I'm just wondering whether there is any product around that we could perhaps spray on to smarten it up and stop any further peeling. It's spoiling her otherwise good looks for an old girl!!

Thanks

Helen

Helen,

Sorry the very tech approach, but I have worked in the adheisve industry for many many years and have worked with all the big caravan manufacturers, so....

What sort of laminate? Is it the hard rigid melamine type or the sort flexible PVC?

If it is the hard type use a polychloroprene based contact adhesive - I don't like to mention the competition but "Evostik" is the sort of thing you will see retail. Lots of ventilation. Coat both surfaces, let it go tacky (5-10 mins) then press together.

If it is the flexible PVC it becomes a little more tricky, best let me know if it is rather than me try and explain it now - because your van was made in '91 it is most likely the former.

Thanks Richard but I perhaps didn't explain properly!! Don't mean laminate (typical woman!) I mean the yucky brown ish finish on the wardrobe, drawers etc is peeling off revealing white underneath. If you touch it it peels off more! Just wondering if we could perhaps rub it down and spray or paint something else on top which would adhere properly. Purely cosmetic but girls like to keep their looks..............

Any ideas, cheers.

Helen,

I guess then you are talking about a very thin film laminate (o.1mm) almost like a layer of paint? And you have MDF or melamine board underneath?

If so, I can suggest to try sanding and painting a very small area that is normally hidden - bottom edge of a door etc. So you do not riun what trim you do have!

This will give you an idea if you are safe to go all out and strip the doors etc. But you must decide this for yourself! Don't take my word for it!

You could always buy some thin MDF or plywood and make some new doors etc. These could then be painted in any colour. You could always put the old ones back on that way.

Richard.
