i have a 2010 bailey pegasus 546 and the decals are peeling off. took caravan to my local maindealers to have repair done on warranty to be told that bailey out of the goodness of their hearts are replacing these decals on affected caravans but according to the maindealers it is the owners fault for letting snow sit on the caravan. has anybody else had a similar problem with theirs? was told as snow thaws and slides off it was dragging off the stickers.....my last two caravans were 14+ years old and decals were intact albeit slightly faded but certainly not peeling off after one winter.especially on a caravan that is specifically marketed as being an all seasons leisure tool. now here is the thing, if bailey do replace the stickers(yep you've guessed it they are out of stock due to demand) do i risk the same next year or use a cover?

Does the handbook SPECIFICALLY instruct you to remove all snow as soon as it falls? Didn't think so!
You need to challenge the dealer on whether a caravan is designed for outdoor use - as it obviously is intended for outdoor use it should tolerate normal weather - and snow isn't that rare in the UK.
Actually you might do better finding a more competent dealer.

Hello happyvanman,

I echo RogerL's reply.
Unless the handbook specifically tells you to remove lying snow, then the supplier (and I mean supplier not manufacturer) is on a very sticky wicket.
Whether you are having repairs carried out by the origional seller under SoGA, or if you are using the manufactures network of dealers, under the manufacturers guarantee system, such a claim that you should remove lying snow is unreasonable, and you should not agree to pay any costs to have the work done.
It is a well documented fact that the majority of caravans are kept outside 365 days a year. The designer and manufacture should ensure that the products they use are sufficiently durable for the conditions they will encounter in the country of sale or other specified markets.
It would be unreasonable in the extreme to expect ownwers to have to remove snow fall whenever it happens, and I strongly susspect that if ever such a case were contested in court, the seller and or manufacturer would loose on teh grounds that given the well understood nature and life of caravans, such attention to snowfall is unreasonable.

thank you for your replies. Yes they will be replacing the decals without charge when they become available from bailey. i do not intend paying for this work and let it be known at the time that it was bought as an allseasons van and not an allseasons except snow van...lol however i have doubts that the stickers will be any different to the ones that are peeling now so in a wierd position if it were to happen again next year...will they be liable to change them again if they peel again?.after all if i were holidaying in it when the snow came i could hardly cover it up or am i expected to climb up an clear it. thanks for confirming my thoughts that it is the supplier and not the manufacturer that is to sort this.has anyone heared of this happening to anybody else?

What a lame excuse from the dealer/Bailey. Presumably it is not the snow per se but the moisture when it melts that is affecting the decals. So haven't they heard that it rains in UK and that produces more moisture over the year than snow ever will.

yes i did think along similar lines myself otherclive, dont know how much is what bailey are saying and what dealer wants me to think bailey are saying. either way the decals are peeling and there is moisture getting behind the decals as we sometimes have to force the water back out as they bubble behind the stickers. either way apart from some bits that let them down the pegasus is a good van.

off the cuff I would say that a failier to properly prepare the surface prior to applying the decals is the real cause of the problem!!!!!!
I had to wait for 3 months for new decals for the rear of my Pageant when it had to be repaired. This sort of time scale seems the norm for spares from any caravan manufactorer

I doubt if Bailey would say it was due to snow otherwise they will not be selling any more caravans. I think it is a sneaky dealer who is telling porkies.

I had RANGER decal bubble up, my dealer orderd new only took a few days, bailey stated that not enough water had been applied when it had been put on.By applying water they said that when the squeegy is applied it removes all water as this cannot be conpreesed. If no water is applied air gets trapped under and is compressed, when temperature rises air expands and lifts decal. There was no problem whatsoever with my dealer or bailey, some dealers just dont want to bother as the are paid so little for doing the work.

yes i agree that my dealer show's little interest but unfortunately i get this impression from alot of caravan places who seem to be doing well from lack of second hand stock and high demand for caravan equipment they seem to charge what they want an couldnt care less once they have had their hand in your pocket. I suspect that it might be the dealer but have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Lost the "e" letter from the "Senator" decal rear of my Senator 5 van.
Cost me 25 quid for a replacement Senator word out of which I had to cut out the required letter to effect repair.
As they say, nice work when you can get it Mr Bailey. As for the issue of winter snow causing the problem more dealer rubbish, I was told it was sunlight that caused mine to fall off......
Make you wonder where the decal suppler did his R&D work? Mohave desert or Alaska. Thats if there was/is any specification written by Bailey in the first place.
