Pentewan best route when towing /Mevagissy St Aust

Hi there,
We are travelling south on the M5 to get to Pentewan/Mevagissy/St Austell next week and would like to know the best route once we come off the M5 if anyone has done this trip towing a caravan and also if anyone has done this recently to give advice on e.g. roadworks - any advice greatly appreciated! - thank-you in advance

Went down to Cornwall Sunday last for 4 days. Decided to go over the bridge at Plymouth for a change and via St Austell. ( to Sithney near Helston) The traffic was bad on the bridge as only 1 lane into Cornwall. The usual traffic around St Austell but otherwise quiet. There are long roadworks on the A30 where they are completing the dualled section near Bodmin. Came back that way yesterday (rather then pay to get out of Cornwall on the Tamar bridge) but it wasn't too bad. Came up the A303 rather than keep on the M5 to Taunton. All quiet except for the jacknifed car/caravan near Yeovil. Car facing the wrong way on the Westbound hard shoulder with caravan still attached but both very badly damaged. Couldn't see any other vehicles involved, dead straight road, no wind at all. Caravan was quite old tho so maybe no anti-snake etc. Someone's holiday ruined tho:-(
