Hi,

We had a pop up caravan a few years back when I got back from8 years aid work inAfrica. It was too small for us and our little daughter so I sold it and at the time we needed the money.

We have a good sized tent but my wife is from Africa and veers towards getting away from roughing it... so I bought a campervan.

Good fun but again too small and I just put it on ebay and bought a 4 birth caravan with a shower:) Now the wife should accept camping!

Picking it up from Dartmoor in around a week and all I know is that it has a flat battery, empty gas bottle, and no water container.

I am not sure what I need as I have never owned one like this and don't even know how the shower works. I know it has a water heater but not sure if that is gas or electricity...

I think I need to get towing mirrors, extension for electricity connection at campsite, some water holder (do these stay outside and link into caravan from there for shower and sink), dirty water container - I see things on wheels around campsite, a stabiliser bar... anything else? I am right? All help appreciated:)

I don't have a clue how to operate the caravan yet!

Best

Hello Dan

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on acquiring your Lunar.

Before you tow the caravan have a look at Towing Law to ensure that you are correctly licensed and that your vehicle is capable of towing the caravan safely and legally.

I don't know if you have inspected your caravan, tyres often need changing on pre owned caravans because although there might be plenty of tread pattern the sidewalls deteriorate which can often result in a blow-out.

Find out if you can how old the caravan tyres are,if they are older than 5 years it's best to replace them.

Push the hitch back to check the brake overrun mechanism before coupling up. there should be some resistance when it slides back and it should return slowly.

You really need to make sure that your caravan is safe to tow, check the brakes, lights and indicators before moving off.

If your towing vehicle is fitted with a 12s (grey) plug the battery should charge on the way home, ask the seller to show you how everything works.

For the shower to work you will need a source of water, ask the seller if there is an electric hook up lead, a step and a water hose and pump.

The hose goes into an Aquaroll and these can either be bought new of there are used accessories available from online auction sites or Preloved.

You will definitely need towing mirrors, the best thing to do is to make sure that your caravan is safe to tow and then ask on the forum.
