please help

can any one tell me if it is my damper that has had it or is some thing else wrong ?????

when i set off from a junction i get a thud though the car this only happens when i have braked and the vans brakes have come on as well? should the breaks on the van come on when i am not braking hard

many thanks

danny

Daniel, the best way to check if your damper has given up is test the hitch.

Stand at the front of the hitch and try and press it back towards the van, it should be very hard to move, and when it does move, it only moves slowly.

Then let it go and it should slowly return to its rest position.

If it moves freely, or can be placed in any position and stay there, the damper is not working.

To answer your last question, yes it would be felt through the clutch pedal.

"20+ yeras ago the first time we went to France we had that problem

It was quite alarming and I remember pulling up to a filling station and stopping with a loud bang that alarmed the French lady on the pumps!!

The CC flew a new damper out to Nantes airport under the Red Pennant insurance and I fitted it on site

Its just a bolt at each end
