O.K. heres something that baffles me. From reading posts on here nobody voted Labour in the last election. I'll admit I never either, mine was a tactital vote for Lib Dem just to keep the Tories out which worked. I have still got my memories of 17 years of Conservative rule and those memories aren't pleasant :O( . I cant be the only one on here who gets fed up of the constant political jibes in EVERY thread under EVERY topic. I think it would be nice if His Moddyship could create a Political Forum so those who need to blast off at Blair and Brown could post to rid themselves of their frustrations. So my question is - how the hell did Labour get elected if nobody voted for them? ;O)

walks away whistling
let me explain that! god know why, but please!

There is no way I wanted Tories back! that would have meant I will have moved out of the country.

I was also worried the Libs, might just get under the wire if they got enough "get out of jail" votes

So I walked to the voting hall, voted Labour then (in big writing) placed the word VOID across the form. Folded it, posted it and went home!

My problem is I see little difference between any of them. As you say the Conservatives managed to screw things up with their Boom and Bust management - and as for dismantling the centres of excellence within the NHS - well we are still suffering from the fall out of that nonsense now.

So please do not think my pokes at Blair and Brown are because I am a Conservative - I most definitely am not.

What I do not like is the promise that tuition fees would not be introduced then they are.

The W of MD lie is something I will never forgive - however justified the overall action was.

In my business the Stealth Taxes Gordon has introduced means that we now have a declining savings culture whereas once our pensions and ability to save and invest was the envy of Europe.

Taxing Dividend income within pensions and ISA's has stopped all that - and did you get the point that this tax that rakes in over

That's correct, he never does come out of the barn, but judging by some recent posts the "closet" might be nearer the mark

;o)

Clive,

Please continue with your 'pokes' at Blair and Co, it keeps us all happy. However, you state you are not a Conservative, but didn't want Labour. I am sorry but voting Liberal was a total waste, they are Labour in disguise. We know that because up here as we have them in coalition government, and we are in an even worse mess than you are down south. Give them a Mondeo and they will vote for anything. I agree that in 1997 the country wanted a change, however, did it really understand what it was getting?? When G Brown walked into the Treasury in 1997 he was handed the official report which stated the economy was in its best shape since the war. His response? 'Never tell me that again', then he promptly followed the Tory spending plans. He procrastinates about his stewardship giving growth quarter on quarter. He forgets the first third were under the Tories. It is very strange how people have edited memories. Up here the Tories were the party to hate, yet all the Labour supporters queued up to buy their council houses courtesy of Maggie. They were also the first to buy the privatised shares, and then sell them for a profit. And one should never forget what came before Maggie? I remember the power cuts due to the power workers being on strike, the rubbish piling up in the streets, the dead unburied. What else? Oh yes, having to get a stamp in my passport to allow me to take the princely sum of

I certainly would not drink - sorry - vote for the lib dems!

I cannot STAND anything or any party that tries to be one thing for one interest group and another for the next.

Stand by what you mean and mean what you stand for is my motto.

Lib dems fail on all counts.

And please do not deduce that I now must be a UKIP voter because a vote for them is for racist bigots in my book.

I often vote for the independent who has an issue as long as it is one that I agree with. The beauty of UK politics is that such independents can win.

Think what would happen IF WE ALL STOPPED VOTING AS WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE! - PEOPLE THAT DO NOT BOTHER STARTED AGAIN - AND PEOPLE STOOD FOR ELECTION ON A GENUINE AND SINCERE BELIEF RATHER THAN THE GRAVY TRAIN OF PERSONAL GREED.

don't take this the wrong way as I think the NHS is a great idea.

But it is a pile of poo. I have used private hospitals for 10 yrs and the cost of the insurance is less than the amount taken off me by this government for the NHS!

Currently, the only time I use the NHS is for my bone density scans. They can only do these at 5 yr intervals so I have to have interim ones dome privatly. Its a shame the powers that be do not put as much money into our own health as they do to other projects!

Steve - as far as I am concerned you are preaching to the converted - I KNOW some will not want to hear this - but believe me studies have been done that shoe that of we all paid the same amount of money as we pay in NIC to the most expensive US Private health care plan we could have full health care in the states including our flights there and back for consultations - and that did include A&E despite the (stupid) idea of transporting an RTA victim across the Atlantic.

The reason we pay so much for what is increasingly seen as a second rate service is that there are more managers than doctors.

I do not think the US system is better than ours but I KNOW their hospitals are cleaner. The NHS for what it is, is VERY EXPENSIVE.

Sadly it is well past its sell by date.

The bullet needs to be bitten, but until it is I would still want to be take ill here rather than elsewhere if I had no PMI.

Incidentally - a couple of PMI firms are quoting Hospital cleanliness reports for the local NHS Hospital vs. the local Private Hospitals - the result is a significant increase in individuals and companies signing up for PMI plans

Can you blame them?

It is not the medical expertise we lack in this country - it is the will to do things well.

Try the Monster Raving Luny Party - some of there ideas are very persuasive - we have already had the 99p coin idea of theirs put forward on this Forum - which of coures would do away with the need for a 1p coin - think of the savings!

But I still think their gratest idea was the Bulgarian and Czeck tax to run along side the Pole Tax.

What a missed opportunity!

Clive in answer to your questions I can only tell it as I have found it over the years since I first started to have problems back in 1979, then the NHS was ok I was seen quickly but the Scanning machines were not avaiable by about 1989 The NHS was a joke I could not get private healthcare to cover me, my employers paid for me to see a consultant I had brain and spinal scans that showed how the MS was increasing I was then dependent on the NHS and it was bad, I was left to fend for myself. However things have really took a turn for the better over the last few years I now have a specialist MS nurse who I can phone up if I have problems and she gets things sorted striaght away. One example my right foot had collapsed with in one month I had seen a physio who referred me to Pediatory (spelling?)who made me special insoles and had me walking all within a month on the NHS. Now that would never have happened a few years ago. I can also phone for the services I need and they come to me I used to have to wait months and go to the hospital. Things have changed, I am not saying its perfect but it is a lot better than its was.
