18 months ago my Mother in Law needed a new hip , she could hardly walk a few steps and was in great pain. She was told at an NHS appointment she would have to wait up to 2 years .

We had it done privately and it took most of the families savings.

Today we are told a number of police may be charged over the shooting last year . When is Blair going to be charged over taking the country into an illegal war based on lies and spin?

Now I would never try and mock Labour and make fun of them. They are quite capable of doing that themselves!

My mother has MS Paul and and I see no improvement in the way she has been treated. Both my young daughter have had a taste of the NHS in the past two years. Both put on waiting lists and then just before 12 months is up a letter asking if they still want treatment. Of course when they replied "yes" they were moved to anothe list so cutting Labours waiting list. This happened here in the South East and n the North and relative with

kidney problems had the same in the South East.

Dangerously ill with a life threatening condition a member of my family spent 6 days in hospital with no treatment because a dept requested some record and had no procedure to cover the record not arriving.

All though I am fit and well, age has meant I have had a few tests and check ups in the past two years. In my book the NHS management does not exist, they may be there but it is a mystery as to what they are doing.

Our present day government keeps throwing more and more money at new ideas instead of concentrating on sorting out the mess they have got into whilst believing there own spin.

cris, this is the legacy of the tories stealth of privacy through the back door bringing out Health Trusts with Chief Executives on over inflated salaries bringing in new managers with over inflated job titles. The Health Service as never had so much money thrown at them as under Labour and that is fact whether its hard to swallow or not. The problem lies in the government not stepping in and stopping the money being milked off by the 1000s of managers. Having worked in the Health Service most of my life I could write a book. Just locally we have Managers with no qualifications at all, infact one Manager in the Ambulance Service was given the job provided he went to night school to gain a management qualification. The present Locality Manager in the service has no management qualifications at all apart from being a Paramedic. We have 2 hospital trusts both with Chief Executives and their Chairmen and umpteen Directors. There are then the non-executive directors who sit on lots of trusts and receive a nice salary from each for attending about 4 board meetings. Our local Hospital Trust was in finacial problems so a whizz kid came in to sort things. My wife was the hospital receptionist, she was one of the ones he made redundant leaving nobody to help people with their queries. After six months he left and a new Chief Executive was appointed realising it was a bad move having nobody on reception. Now there are 3 on reception doing what just my wife did. These are the problems that need addressing and until somebody in government has the guts to tackle the problem and get rid of those milking the system things can only get worse. Believe me, you have to work in the health service to see it and its a real eye opener. Very frustrating and no good for the blood pressure realising theres sod all you can do about it.

p.s. Lots of promotions to management in the Service I worked for were not on how good you were at the job or what qualifications you had but how good you were at brown nosing. O.K. when i arose this morning I was sat on my throne doing my ablutions and got to thinking. This is the place where I do most of my philosophising because it is the quietest room in the Hall within reason ;O) There I was striking up the pose of "The Thinker", elbow on knee, forehead resting on knuckle trying to work it out. I dont mean like the constipated mathemetician, trying to work it out with a pencil, but trying to answer the problem that was troubling me. If the Iraqis never had WMD how did they gas all those Kurds. They must have done, so the U.N. sends in Hans Blix and a few others to find them. Iraq is a big country so how long was it going to take them? It was an impossible task. Even today they are still finding mass graves which dont move about the country. I think Blair is an honest person, he was just misinformed. Its obvious he doesn't take the decision to invade on his own and its wrong to just blame him. He has military and MI5 advisors to advise him and if there was no WMD it was just as much their fault. On a personal note as long as Saddam stayed within his own boundaries I dont think he was a problem. The main problem for peace lies next door in Iran and has done since the fall of the Shah and Homeini came to power.

I thank God I live in this country, aged 35 I was a yuppy in the 80s when my world collapsed due to MS gone was the high paid job, company car and expenses account.Its then you realise the value of our welfare state and the NHS and are grateful for it.

lets not forget what is good about our political system.

Paula ,You are so right in spite of all the moaning and groaning about the NHS.it is the real crown jewels of our country,closely followed by our welfare system. coljac

Personally I think good management is good management, and you don't need privatisation to ensure that. What this countery lacks is good effisient effective management. From top to bottom, with a few exceptions in between.

cris I am sorry to hear your Mother has MS, I dont know where you live but a lot of NHS trusts have introduced MS Specialist nurses. It may be worth finding out if your Mother can gain access to one, it has made a big differance to me over the last 2 yrs, before you had to go via Doctor consultant to get treatment. Now I just phone her and if she can't help directly she refers me to the right specialist. She has got a team of people together to deal with my problems a neuro physio has been working on getting my posture and walking better, and incontenance nurse now sees me every month and has made a big improvement with my bowel and bladder problems I'll stop there TO MUCH IFORMATION but you know what I mean. Its just a pity they can't cure it, hope your Mother can get the same help.

Blair is not honest. He is delusionary. If he convinces himself it is true, then it must be so, regardless of actual fact. Remember Hitler also was convinced he was absolutely right, and that God was on his side. For a long time a majority of his countrymen also shared that belief, because they trusted him. Obviously there are fortunately mnany things they don't have in common, but one thing they do share is the record of invading of a country that hasn't attacked you.
