I am, as an ongoing project, restoring and remodelling a Sprite Compact pop-top.

The vinyl sides to the upstand are starting to show their age, and I would like to replace them - so I either need somewhere that can make up such things, or find a source of suitable material.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi, The only place i know that would be able to help is W.Wells & Son marquee makers Boston Lincs, I,ve used them before for repairs to similar things, I suppose any tent/curtian ide manufacturer could help?

For Fabrics

They will supply quality materials in cut lengths and all forms of pop studs and turn buckles webbings etc.

Suitable PVC should have a fabric base clothe for strength, cheaper PVC's can have nylon base cloth that will fall apart when constantly folded.

If using a PVC, Kaoysprice sell PVC with polyesters that will stand up to constant folding and UV.

Getting it made up is your problem, they also sell industrial threads.

You may find one of their coated marine Acrylic fabrics a better bet re condensation and fabric sweating rather than a

PVC ;-)

Hi Oldfogey,

We've always had Eriba Touring caravans and can recommend the use of a modern acrylic coated fabric - they are waterproof under all normal conditions, robust, easy clean, and breathable.

Look for a coated polyester fabric made by TenCate

I should have put this http://www.sailcloth.co.uk/ - you can download the catalogues and see fabric specs and colours now I'm told.

Ten Cate are manufacturers of Marine Fabrics. Kayospruce sell fabrics the same spec as Ten Cate fabrics and possibly better depending on what you need.

Acrylic marine fabrics have the following benefits

Woven constructions providing taditional quality appearance. Less dye fade or crazing as they are solution dyed.

Accrylic gives excellant UV protection compared to polyester.

They have very good weather resistance + will take a wide range of exstreme temperatures. Also they will not sweat, crack or stick together like PVC

Most quality fabrics are Fungi and Bactreria ressistand and bug proof and resistant to oil and grease.
