Hi,

I am looking at the Outdoor Rev Porchlite XL against the Scennic Plus. I believe the Porchlite XL does not have a bar resting on caravan. Has anyone got either of these and can they give me advice.

Joanne, we have a scenic plus and although it has been used a few times I'm not overly impressed as it does leak at the seams in heavy rain.

One other downside is the tensioning pole that goes round the outside of it has dented the caravan when in high winds overnight one night. My own fault for not taking it down I suppose!

If I was buying now, I would look at an Ultima 260 or 390.

Having said all that, people have contradicted me on my experiences of the scenic, and some have never had any problems.

Cheers

Nick

We have a Scenic Plus and are very pleased with it. I would advise taking it down if it gets very windy because there is no way of attaching storm straps. Having said that it has survived some quite windy conditions. To prevent the side of the caravan getting marked be the tensioning pole that goes around the outside, I obtained two very large rubber suckers intended for normal awning poles, cut a notch across the socket part for the canvas to sit in, and the end of the tensioning pole sits neatly in the sucker. If you have smooth caravan walls at will not move at all.

Hi

We have a Porchlite XL and are very pleased with it. We had the smaller one first, for a couple of years but bought this one when it came out early last year, because of the extra room it gives. We have had 4 sitting around the table out of the van, comfortably. It stood for 2 weeks at a time without any problems, except for a little pooling in heavy rain, but it is soon removed. I have a 3" square of thin ply with that none-slip matting glued both sides to slip under the hoops were they meet the van side just under the awning rail. I have always shied away from the Scenic because of the "hoop" rail meets the van side about a foot down below the awning rail. What you have to remember is, what do you expect from somethig so cheap!!!

Its only there to give shelter from the rain while taking off wet clothes before entering the van, they are very quick to erect and if its wet when we strike it, just bundle it up shove it in a bin liner & put in the shower to travel home or to the next site, it takes less than an hour to dry out on the line at home or your next site!! It makes me smile when I hear people moaning that it isn't like a big full awning costing 6 or 7 times as much!!!!

HI

we have a pyramid pdq very handy as you can leave it on the awning rail if changing sites etc and remove it as you wish at the end of your trip.

towsure do them at a reasonable price.

it only weighs a few kilo and no hoops etc to punch into van walls.

it also has tie down straps to keep wind probs to a minimum.

log onto pyramids web site you will find a video showing all you need to know.

mine survived a major storm and 4 days of torrential rain last autumn not bad for what is after all a tent!

good luck H.
