Porch Awning

Hi All

We are intending to put our van on a site from mid March until mid June and want to errect and XL Porch Awning. As we will be leaving the van unattended other then weekends we want to make sure that the awning is strong enough to be left up for this length of time. Can anyone recommend a good strong XL porch awning that will withstand being left up for this length of time and also what type of frame is the best to use is it the fibre glass or steel. Any tips for putting up an awning last time we tried it took hours and its not a procedure I am looking forward to repeating.

Hi annie. Can't recommend a porch awning as we don't have one (neither do we have a seasonal pitch for that matter). Just wondering if you are going for an awning that you are going to put up and leave up, why are you going for a porch awning; why not go for a full awning? You will get loads more space and you won't have drafts at the side as the awning will be in the channel. It probably won't take much longer than a porch to put up in the first place and may not be that much more expensive. Sorry, not trying to force a view on you; just suggest another possibility.
As far as putting an awning up; it used to take us hours, a trip to a marriage counsellor and a few stiff drinks to recover with afterwards. With practice it does get easier and quicker. It is only about practice, marking the poles up so that you know which one goes where, and a good system. Still can't do it without at least one arguement though.

Get the largest porch awning you can - this way you have a chance it will fit your next van.Make sure it is pegged down well with long (rock) pegs inside AND out, Fit Isabella awning rail stops to prevent it sliding along hte rail in strong winds. Have a good tie down strap, If a built -in one in two parts, have a tensioning spring on each side. Get the pegs for the strqp/s in at an oblique angle. I would prefer fibre poles for flexibility, but not insist,
