Hi all

I'm thinking of getting a portable dvd player rather than a television for the van- can anyone recommend one? (This has probably been asked before but I can't get the search facility to work.)

Thanks

Hi Sue

so far very pleased, we used it for the past week in car and caravan with no problems - only during Wallace and Gromit has it once "frozen", so we reset it playing and it was fine.

obviously it's not as good as my Sony at home, but you gets what you pays for and as I said Shinco APPARENTLY make DVD players for bigger names like Sony, JVC anyway.

the tilting screen is a good idea, as we used to take my laptop but had problems with angles. the only thing I would say is that if you are using it in the car 2 screens in the back are better than one - if you have 2 kids that is!

Hi,

Follow the advice from the money guru on Radio 2 - use www.pricerunner.co.uk to hunt down the best price on the internet for you.

If you know the model, then this (and other free services) hunt through the UK internet sites and list by price (including standard delivery).

Thanks for all your suggestions. In the end I got a Shinco DVD player like yours Mark. I think the picture is excellent & the sound is also good. The only reservation I have is that it makes quite a loud whirring noise as the disc goes round. Frank says they all do that but I've never noticed it before.

yeah, mine does too but with such a small unit that is to be expected - if you've ever left a CD on your computer when you turn it on, it's like a plane taking off!

Hope the Shinco works out well for you.
