I remember being on a Sealink British Railways ferry ....
The Earl Granville, way back in 1983.
Very little stopped the ferries to the Channel Islands sailing from Portsmouth in those days.
The captain was zig zaging to hit huge waves head on... 99% of the passengers were sea sick and all the vehicles were chained to the decks, to avoid otherwise inevitable damage.
These days I think there is more 'Duty of Care' towards the paying customers!
