Possibly selling our caravan…due to redundancy.

Been notified that I will be losing my job of 13 years :(

Due to this way may need to sell our caravan,

Can anyone recommend a good site / website who you have sold your caravan to? Or would we be better selling privately..

Just trying to see about things, and as we have the caravan as an asset we could sell to have some extra cash.

Not something we want to do, but I would like to source some quotes to have a better picture

Sorry to hear of your bad news. I used Autotrader to sell mine. Only used the basic option. Within three hours of the ad appearing a buyer had driven from Cardiff to give me £500 holding deposit. Collected a couple of days later paid by bank transfer. The CMHC classified ad drew no interest.

I'm sorry to read of your misfortune. I hope the outcome is better than you are antisipating.

Another sorry to hear your news. I've been through this a couple of times and can confidently say that the worst time (for me) was the period between being told that my position was 'at risk' and being given a leaving date. I don't know your location or skill set, but in the area I live I didn't find it difficult to find another job. The first time I took a significant pay cut, and the second time I had a couple of jobs I had I hated, but they kept me going until I could find the right position. I hope things work out for you.

I've also been through this. You are right to get a valuation and consider your options. But don't make any hasty decisions. If you gain additional cash from selling your caravan you may reduce your entitlement to some benefits. You may not want to take benefits but yours is a genuine situation and you've paid tax to entitle you to them. Good luck.

Hard luck, but don't be hasty in your decisions. If you already own the caravan outright you have a useful asset. Even better if you store it on land you own then the on-cost of keeping it is relatively small. You may find a new job quite quickly and the caravan is still there to use. Our caravan - due to illness - did 76 miles last year, that is 38 miles each way to get it serviced by the supplying dealer!
Things may not be as bad as they at first seem, and taking time over decisions that affect the long term is usually advantageous. OK not quite the same, but when I chose to take voluntary redundancy in 2013 as early retirement the redundancy payment was over £4K more than I expected due to the way that redundancy is calculated and the overtime that I had worked in the calculating period.
Good luck.

Sadly a sign of the times Saxo. Be positive and look beyond the horizon. You may well use this opportunity to find a better paid job . I’d hold fire with the caravan for a few months whilst job hunting.
Otherwise I’m a plus 1 for Clive’s suggestion which worked well for him,
Good luck with the next few months

What an awful time for you. Nothing worse than uncertainty. Once you know exactly what is what you will feel better and be able to make clear plans.
In the meantime trawl through the likes of Autotrader and Caravanfinder to see what sort of price your van is going for, on dealers forecourts and Caravanfinder to private sales. You can expect a dealer to offer you 3K less than they are selling for.
Hopefully it won’t come to it, but there are lots of places you can sell such ans Facebook, Preloved, Gumtree annd on here. But beware of scammers.

Thanks for all the comments, definitely not the news I expected but I need to be proactive.

The other half won’t let me doing anything hasty, she has a calmer head. Yes the caravan is fully paid.

It's a truly bleak time, I was made redundant in 2019. The only advice I could give would be to tell as many people as possible in your industry that you're seeking work. Due to my position I was put on immediate garden leave for 3 months but decided to take an additional 4 months off to straighten my head out. I can honestly say that it was the best thing that happened to me as every job since has been better and better. Be prepared for recruitment agencies to offer you the world but deliver nothing, my experience with them was a frustrating waste of time, BUT using word-of-mouth I found job offers lining up.

I don't know what industry you're in but talk to as many people as possible, it's surprising how many job opportunities are out there that aren't yet advertised. The last three jobs I have had weren't advertised.

It's so easy to say "don't worry" as you will, BUT these things can often work out to be a bit of a blessing. Whatever worries it brings, make sure you talk to those around you, I didn't and it affected me mentally.

When the company I was working for went into administration, we had to sell the caravan and OH's car as went into panic mode as extremely difficult to get another job when you are 59 years of age.

However I then picked up some part time work and managed for a few years until it was time to retire and draw my pension. In essence there was no real need to sell the caravan orOH's car so don't be too hasty.

For those that like to know, I work Offshore, the Oil and Gas isn’t what it once was…and Labour have ruined new contracts. A lot of Clients are pulling out, which results in no work. Our Rig is away to be stacked till 2026.

Let’s just say there is no chance I’d be pushing my son into Offshore!

Sorry to hear that SA, in these uncertain times, we should be doing every thing to make sure we make the most of our resources, and to scrap this ludicrous “net zero” lunacy. We NEED to be self sufficient.

Good luck with the future! 🤞👍
