We store our pots n pans under the cooker where there is a vent

- my question is how do you stop your pots n pans from going rusty - we are on our second lot now.

Hi..

Personally I feel that the pans vibrating whilst in transit damages the surfaces and hence encourages the corrossion. I seperate the pans with tea towels or similar to stop the vibration.

I'm sure I dont need to mention it, but the vent in the floor is a "DROP HOLE" to allow gas to disipate in the event of a leak (gas being heavier that air) and as such MUST NOT be covered or blocked.

if the pans are going rusty you really should check for damp?

however a solution that seems to work is to ensure the pots/pans are clean and dry then smear them lightly with cooking oil/olive oil and place in plasic bag before storing

Good idea about the oil. However having had a similar problem myself years ago, the cause was not damp but condensation collecting on the colder surface of the pans. A bit like finding the outside of your car "wet" on some mornings with no rain to blame.

I found just uprating my pans to the non-stick variety cured the problem.

Our pans of choice are now Tefal with detachable handles,all stack very neatly. Available in most big French Supermarkets etc.

Hi Steve , we have never had rusty pots as they have always been in stainless steel and we also use the non slip sheets to stop them moving around like over vent holes and coming into contact with the glass doors.

That actually depends on the grade of stainless steel used.
