Hi all, i have just bought a new van, an Elddis Crusader. i am having the model 6 AWD mover fitted and just to be 100% sure of things, i wanted to clarrify that the weight of the mover which is quite a bit is to be taken away from the allowable payload of the van. Can someone please advise me. Thanks very much.

Its got to be part of the payload but at least its low down

As Watson(JohnG) says this has to be included as part of the payload of the van. What I did (and you should consider provided everything else - i.e. gross train weight etc stacks up) is get the manufacturer (Coachman in my case) to replate the van with an increased MTPLM. This should be sufficient to cover the weight of the mover and thereby leave the allowable payload of the van for other essentials (such as wine and beer!!!!).

That thought floated across my brain as well!!

Unfortunately, you can only replate the van MTPLM if the axle plate will allow it. If the manufacturer has already used the axle load value as the MTPLM, then I am afraid there is nothing you can do....except change the axle, which is difficult and expensive.

Thanks for confirming what i thought was correct. I think even with the mover fitted i will be alright as this van has a 270kg payload. I don't think i will use that even with all my gear and an awning on the floor!!

just a reminder that the gas cylinders,battery,& spare wheel are all usualy part of the payload & all eat into that 270kg

hi Tony, yes i appreciate what you are saying, but again 270kg is just under 600lbs in old money and even with battery, bottles, mover etc etc that's a very generous allowance, could always put things in my very un-PC Land Rover!!

David, you've got to live a little every now and then, this is my second fixed bed twin axle and i don't care what anyone says about these big vans, i love them and wouldn't have it any other way.

Bearing in mind what Scotch Lad has said it might be worth checking with your manufacturer to see if it is possible to replate the van as this way you would probably cover the weight of the mover and still have the original payload. At
