Powrtouch (& others) reliability?

I have read lots of messages about how good Powrtouch are with warranty claims but I would much prefer it if warranty claims were not necessary & nobody had needed to find out how good/bad they are.

Are motor movers generally reliable & why have so many of you experience of the Powrtouch warranty service?

Like many things you will only hear about the "bad" ones. I can only speak for my experience with powrtouch and while I have had warranty work done, some of this surprised me considerable, as i would have been inclined (had i been the supplier) to call it "fair wear and tare".

I get the impression that their policy is - once in touch with a customer - keep him totally happy, and that they have certainly done so far as I am concerned.

My mover has never let me down - there was just one occaision when the performance deterioriated somewhat, leading to replacement control box, but I am sure the original unit would have continued to work for some months.

I understand the sales of all movers runs into thousands a year so the overall reliability figures are probably well up to what would be expected from this sort of equipment.

Chris, Powrtouch movers are , generally, very reliable.

If you consider that they are the market leaders in sales, there are a lot of movers around!!

With everything in life, and especially on the internet, all you hear are about problems.

With the production of components there will always be a quality issue at some time, it affects every manufacturer, but they are not afraid to accept that and not give you grief if you do have a problem.

As the saying goes, good news travels fast, bad news even faster.

With the minimal amount of maintainence require on powrtouch movers, and the second to none customer care they provide with a truly genuine 5 year guarantee there is little to worry about.

Hi Chris

Father in Law has a Truma mover on his Pageant. One of the drive wheels fell off in the North West Highlands. His Dealer, Broad Lanes immediately telephoned Truma who rang us back. In less than 24 hours a new whel and circlip was delivered to our site at Ardmair Point near Ullapool. Excellent.

I have a Powrtouch mover on my Wyoming only because our dealer reckons they are better and the price is competitive. Also the guarantee is a lot longer. It works very well but as for longevity, only time will tell.

Cheers

Alan

I have heard only good reports about PowrTouch, unfortunately I have a Truma. The reason we had a mover fitted was the slope and closeness to a wall on our drive. The mover was a about 2 1/2 years old when a metal arm fractured. We were booked to go to Bognor in one weeks time but the mobile engineer said it was no problem, Truma would send a replacement by the following Tuesday :O) That's what he thought. They told him that the factory was closed the following week and no parts go in or out. They did promise that if stock taking finished early they would then send it. They never so we had to cancell the C.C. site at Bognor and re-booked for October.

When do you think they closed the factory for stock taking? The height of the holiday season in July.

I know who I will be getting my next mover off :O)

Hi Chris, I have had a powertouch motor mover for 5 1/2 years of trouble free service, its connected to a 110 amp battery.

Use it for reversing on sites, and parking in our drive.

I have never had any problems with reversing onto pitches with pebbles.

Each year When the wheels are off and the van rests on axle stands thoroughly clean all the moving parts, re-lubr the sliding cam shaft with motor cycle chain lubricant which comes out as a very fine spray , which penetrates between the narrow gaps upon which the cam slides, and turns into a very slippery waxy type surface

Hi Chris,

No manufacturer can guarantee 100% reliability, that's why they give a warranty in addition to your statutory rights.

Where manufactures differ is how they administer their warranty and how good, bad or indifferent their aftersales service is.

When I purchased my new van last year I had a powrtouch mover fitted, I based my choice on the feed back from others on how good powrtouch were if anything did go wrong.

Well sods law went into overdrive! During a visit to Wales on the August bank holiday weekend the right hand motor failed, at 4.55 on a Friday afternoon I telephoned powrtouch, they took my mobile phone number and said they'd phone me back, an engineer from their technical department phoned me back almost immediately and talked me through some checks that I could carry out myself whilst he was on the phone, we could not solve the problem.

I was phoned the following morning at 9 o'clock they were very apologetic they told me that they could not locate a local engineer to come out to me to fix the problem, I said that that would not cause me any problems for that weekend, but the following Friday I was off on my annual hols to the south of France. No problem, we'll get an engineer out to you Tuesday to fix it, I said that there would be no one home as we both work, no problem we'll get an engineer out in the evening.

Needless to say the engineer turned up on the Tuesday evening and replaced the defective motor within an hour.

Now that's what I call customer service! & I'm glad that I chose powrtouch.

Motor mover? The best bit of kit that I've ever bought, why the hell I didn't do it years ago I don't know, but would never be without one now!

Thanks for all the comments.

It still surprises me that something as simple as two motors & a control system that is used relatively infrequently should cause problems unless the low level of use is part of the problem.

I note what has been said about Powrtouch warranty. Anyone got one more than 5 years old? What are their repair costs like then?

we have had our powertouch for 5 years and in that time the only problem was when I broke a shear pin and it was replaced under warranty. The mover has now been transferred to a twin axle and is still giving sterling service.
