Hi there was wondering if anyone puts there fridge on with the leisure battery the night before they go so its chilled up,

I cant plug it in to the mains where its stored so thought i would run it with the battery, does anyone else do this.

Allso should you leave the battery connected at all times?

Hi Rab,

The fridge will only work off the leisure battery when the van is connected to the car.

You could, perhaps, run it on gas (assuming that's allowed where your vsn is stored).

We just put the fridge on when we hitch to the car and hope it will have cooled down a bit by the time we arrive on site.

You could, also, freeze some ice packs at home and transfer those to your fridge to speed up the cooling.

We tend to take a few ice packs and a coolbox to increase our fridge capacity - our freezer compartment isn't big enough to really keep food in, but it's ideal for keeping ice packs frozen!

Unless the van is in correctly wired it should not be possible to run the refrigerator off the vans battery, whether the car is coupled or not.

If you leave it coupled to the car with the ignition on then you could, depending on if the relay is ignition switched or alternator switched, but in both cases you would also be flattening your car's stater battery as well.

The van's battery is only wired to the van's battery where the fridge has an "auto" control system, and as said earlier it cant power the fridge, just the control system.

Why not go to your storage two hours earlier and chill the fridge on gas. It doesn't take much longer. I've known people at our storage sleep in the caravan the night before with the fridge on gas!

Otherwise I agree with Rupert's suggestion.

Chill out man . LOL

To avoid any misunderstandings NEVER drive with the fridge running on gas. Most fridges are supposed to be as near as possible level whether running on gas or 240 volts.

If you freeze a couple of 4 pint milk bottles 3/4 full and put those in the fridge when you pack it with your fridge items they will say cold and you also have some cold water to drink on site as wel

and if you have the 12S socket on your car, the fridge will run on 12v while driving to the site. You will need to select 12v on the fridge for it to operate.
