Pro power transformer problems

I have a Burstner van with a ProPower transformer fitted under the sink to power the water pump and 12v lights. I 've only recently bought the caravan and have rewired it with a new RCD, MCB's and extra sockets etc. The transformer works but won't power the water pump for than about 15 seconds, it then cuts out and is then resettable via the little red trip switch at the side of the unit. Is there something I should be looking for among the wiring or is it a faulty unit (I would have though tit either works or it doesn't)? Secondly, it has a mains power lead which is self explantory and a 12v outlet which is also self explanatory but there's alos a 12v INLET, what's this for? Also, can this transformer work as a 12volt battery charger (if it doesn't trip out every two minutes)?

Hello Paul,

I am not familiar with the details of the Burstner range, but my suspiciion is that your "transformer" is in fact a trickle charger designed to maintain a 12V dc battery. It will not have enough power to run a pump hence it trips out. With a battery in circuit, the battery will provide the majority of the power required to run the pump or other items, and the charger simply replenishesd the lost charge when you have finished using the item.

I suggest you contact the Burstner agent and request a English instruction book for your model of caravan.

Good point! Maybe it is a trickle charger but what is the 12v inlet for? Our Burstner is quite an old one, approximately 10 years old, if not older so I'm not too sure if Burstner would be able to get me a suitable instruction manual. I could always use a translation site on the www!
