problem with Ferry booking quote and final invoice.

In Aug 07 we got an estimate of approx 1100 euro for a sailing from rosslaire to roscoff then return.

We went ahead and booked the rest of our hols in Vendee, on the strength of our estimates( we did expect variations, and allowed for this).

we then rang to confirm in Nov07, again, estimated at 1100 euro, although no definate cost yet, so we paid the deposit, we needed to as we had paid for site etc.

In Jan 08 we got an invoice for 1919 euro !!!!!, we did ring to enquire, and were told this was the cost, so we had no alternitive but to pay.

On our return trip we got talking to another couple, with the same booking as ours, ie 3 adults, 3 kids, same cabins etc, and they paid 1200 euro??

I contacted the company(who will remain nemeless, at present)who basically said tough, this was the cost.we then went on their web site, entered all the details again,for sailing the next day, and got a cost of 1200 euro??

contacted the company again, and again, basically tough , even though the people in customer service/bookings kept contradicting themselves.

for your info I am still pursueing the matter.

any one hadthe same problem?

Not had the same problem - but why not 'name and shame' the company, to prevent anyone else having similar problems in the future.

We have never experienced anything like that. However I would never book without a firm price.

I'm afraid though that I do not understand how you could make a booking without an actual price. Most ferry operators release their next year's sailing schedules and prices around November and you cannot book before then.

When did you actually travel?

We always check prices direct and through The CC before booking.
