It was very nice to see the article in the mag by Doug on fitting a Whale watermaster socket to an older van.

The only problem is that it is less than 10cm away from the 240v Mains electric supply. It's quite evident by the photo's that the Water heater is adjacent to the front of the righthand front side of the wheel (pics 2&6). Surely the water connection could of been positioned further forward as the side bench goes the full length of the van. As in it's current position the aquaroll will be near or next to the water heater vent causing possable obstruction of ventilation flow when on gas mode. Also if the barrell was put forward of that, the water pump pie would traverse the mains electric lead.

To me (an electrician/multi skilled engineer), it looks too easy for water to splash onto the mains socket and having a whale type fitting in my van, I know how often a used connector leaks under pump pressure. I've fitted both water heaters and whale watermaster sockets in all but my current van and they are a good product,

Now don't take it to heart Doug because it is mearly an observation from me. I'm just concerned that water is a good conductor of electricity.

…….Doug also gave a ‘funny answer’ on his fix it page (128).
He was asked ‘What’s the law on showing a light’ if you tow with a front cover on your caravan and it obscures the front running lights.
His reply was not definitive.

I would have thought that since the caravan manufacturer has fitted the lights to comply with Construction and Use legislation, then to fail to use them must be breaking the law.
Covering them up is failing to use them in my book.
To be fair……..Doug did imply that they should not be covered.

Sorry Doug….. especially as the wife and I are in the background of your picture queuing for food in the marquee at Stowford.
