I've just changed my caravan.

The 'new' van is an Elddis Oddysey. There was a butane bottle left on the van by the dealers (accidentally) When I rang them to enquire about this and my Propane regulator, which I had left on my old van, I was told that I can't use Propane on the Elddis?? Is this correct? If so, I have bought two calorlights and can't use them???

I did say 'new' rather than new

it's actually a 2002 model, so doesn't have the bulkhead mounted regulators, which. IIRC are standard on most/all vans in recent times.

Hi Red Mick.

You can use butane or propane in your van. All you need is the correct regulator which connects to the top of the gas bottle.
Your dealer is a numpty.

Hello Red.
As far as I know all UK made touring caravans manufactured in the 30 or more years can use butane or propane subject to the correct regulator being used.
I do wonder if you have missunderstood what the dealer may have said to you. If you have a bottle top butane regulator you cannot use propane, which is true, But change the regulator for a 37mbar propane and all will be fine.
This isn't expensive may be £10 and is a matter of a few minutes work, BUT I must add a note of caution:-
It is now several years since this type of seperate bottle regulators were regularly used. There is nothing wrong with them, but the time lapse may mean the flexible gas pipes need to be replaced. If you are not confident about making these gas connections get a qwualified fitter to do it for you.

One has to question the technical knowledge of the Dealer, or should I say the LACK of knowledge of him.
All caravans, UK built or not can use either Butane or Propane.as all the appliances are set to operate on either gas pressure.
With the older vans up to 2003/4 this entails having different regulators for each gas, which can simply be changed by removing one from the delivery pipe and fiting the correct one for the cylinder to be used.

On later vans it is simply a case of exchanging pigtails for the correct cylinder fitment. They just fit to the bulkhead regulator which is the same for either gas. These pigtails should be changed every 3 years at most.

On the older vans with regulators attached to the delivery hose, the hose should be changed every year preferably but a maximum of 3 years. They MUST be secured at each end with a gas hose worm drive clip or clamp clip.
There is NO SUCH thing as "Self Sealing Hose" as some dealers would have customers believe.
In both cases if there is any damage to the hose at any time, it must be changed immediately.

Thanks for all your replies, to be fair, it was a receptionist quoting the service dept. , so she could have
misunderstood

Received from Elddis today...
Further to your email of recent date regarding your 2002 Elddis Odyssey 482 Caravan.
I can confirm that we would recommend either Butane or Propane Calor Gas for your caravan.
