Puncture on Pneumatic Jockey wheel

Evening all

Does anyone know how to easily remove a pneumatic jockey wheel so I can repair a puncture? I can't get the wheel out of its housing as the metal cylinder that runs through the middle of the plastic wheel has been bent over on one end by, what I assume is some kind of machine. It's too strong to bend back, therefore I cant get the wheel out to remove the inner tube. Here is the link for the wheel in case I'm talking foreign or you want to see which one it is.

I was comtemplating just buying another wheel, but I would have the same problem in removing the existing wheel ! Any help gratefully received.

I assume that there is not a split pin in one end so - saw off one end with a hacksaw. You can get a new axle tube from most caravan dealers or even find them on e-Bay. Look under 'jockey wheel'.

If you buy this Alko one it is a much better job than the one with a plastic wheel(I've had both)

The body is longer and the wheel is fixed with a split pin

I have changed the split pin for an R clip so that the wheel can easily be removed if it get stuck under the A frame

SBS - good idea but I cant find anything on ebay at the mo, I may trim the bent bits of metal off then drill 2 holes in the current tube and buy a split pin

JohnG - thanks, but i dont want to purchase the whole thing again unless I really need to. take on board your comments though, I also hear that the plastic ones can crack in hot weather which isnt good for me as I'm off to France later in the year

Brian I made the mistake of inflating the plastic jockey wheel to the same pressure as the steel one

Well not quite as the plastic exploded first so be warned !!

I've just had a look at my old plastic wheel and I seem to have had the spindle out at some time

It now has a series if short cuts down the spindle end and its been hammered over in sections round the edge

It worked Ok for a while until I bought the one above

fortunately my brother in law is going to angle grind the metal flaps off so I can repair the puncture, we'll then drill a couple of holes in the tube and use a split pin.
