Get someone to give you a hand....

The worst will be feeding it up through the awning rail, make sure you remove all the zip out panels to make it as light as possible.

Hi Andrew

While my other half sorts the inside of our van, I put up our Bradcot awning 1030cm on my own, I find that if you get the awning layed out near to the back end of the van, start to thread the awning in chanel then I just pull it along to the other end (easy)lay the poles where they are going & start to put them up, zip in the panels & start the pegging out, in all from start to finish about 1.5Hrs All the best trying next time.

Hi Andrew.

Getting all in volved is a good start. Lay out all the poles to mimick the finished awning, on the grass far enough away to not get trod upon. That way it is easier to call for the correct one.

If you have to use the caravan step to stand on to adjust the roof poles, don't forget to tell those in the van before you take the step out otherwise, you will be popular!!

I have invested in an Awning companion which is a back to front trigger clamp that clamps to the poles that slide inside each other to adjust the tension. By using this tool you can adjust the tesion much easier than trying to hold the poles apart and get someone else to tighten the clamp screw. For me the main reason for splashing out

Hi Andrew

Check out the awning manufacturers websites eg Isabella, some have videos on how to erect.

Next thoroughly clean out the awning rail with rags screwed up like pipe cleaners. Commercial awning rail channel brushes are available circa

Hi Andrew,

We have a 1050 awning and whilst I wouldn't pretend that no effort is involved in putting it up, it soon becomes a 'routine'.

All of the previous contributors make good points - the hardest part I find is pulling it through the awning channel - Tip - spray the channel with a lubricant (various proprietry brands around)before starting, lay the awning out at the back and start feeding it through, I keep a pair of short step ladders in the van to help me get enough height to give a straight pull along the channel.

I do get swmbo to hold the front pole whilst I put the middle roof pole in place, after that it is fairly plain sailing.

Only time we get any arguments is when we try to fold it up and try to get it back into the bag !!!

Andrew

I tend to just use my porch awning but, but i put different coloured tape on my bradcot awning to help me when putting it up, and i must admit its really nice having the full size awning up, for space and even the smell! it reminds me of camping with the scouts.

Andrew,

My top tip is to make sure you clean & lubricate the awning rail.

On my (sorry, 'our'), avondale Argente the acute bend is at the rear of the van but the awning just seems to thread better from this end.

I only need SWMBO to help holding the poles.

It's worth the effort and can laugh at yourself once the first beer is cracked open!

Hi Andrew, My tip would be to put a guy rope on your middle pole and peg it in secure, this is worth another person holding a pole, and you can carry on and do the rest. Another tip get a hard hat. cheers Graham

That sounds like a very good tip. I must try that next time out. It would at least prevent the pole from keeling over whilst SWMBO is struggling to hold it upright. Thanks for that.
