Putting your motorhome in secure storage in France

Hi folks

Has anyone left their motorhome for a short or long period of time in secure storage in France or any other European country? My wife and I are considering a trip to Europe for several months but we'll need to come back to visit elderly parents and other family members occasionally. We've seen a few places that do this kind of thing but I was wondering what possible pitfalls :( there are. And whether British insurers will permit it under their policies.

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers,

Tourope

Hi Graham, and welcome to the forum.
Although I go to France a lot, I've no idea about this, but I'm sure someone will know.
I'll ask around some motorhoming friends on Facebook too, some of whom live over the water.

Do check with your insurance company, as some will allow and some not. It would depend on where you at the time of (i presume ) flying back to Uk. Some airports will store for you, well in Spain they will. Maybe a campsite close to an airport would do a deal for you, probably depending on time of year, I guess. I have a friend who regularly leaves his van at Cherbourg, when coming to Uk, BUt it is French registration!!

Hi

What I would do is ask on an Expat forum.
Lots have barns doing nothing so am sure there are plenty who could keep it secure.
Depending where you are flying to the Limousin Angloinfo site might be of use and fly from Limoges.

We store our caravan in a secure barn near Chateauroux, and he stores several British registered motorhomes, so there must be others who do it. There is space available, if you'd be interested in long or short term storage.

We insure our caravan with Towergate - though I do appreciate that motorhome insurance is somewhat different. Good luck in finding the information you need.
