pyramid awning poles

has anyone experienced problems with the quick release awning poles? our van is permanantly sited with several others 3 of us have pyramid awnings and several times over the winter the awnings have collapsed none of the other makes of awnings haved

I've had problems 2 out of 3 trips.

I purchased a 10m Corsican awning with alloy poles at the end of last summer. I found that winds caused the extensions to reduce the length of the pole causing the awning to collapse.

The clamps just don't seem up to the job. At one point the dealer said that they recommend steel poles for the larger awnings. I wasn't impressed by that as I'd paid extra for the lighter alloy poles in the belief they were better!

Pyramid said they would replace the alloy poles for steel ones but when I pointed out that the alloy ones cost more they sent replacement clamps. They also said that I should be using storm tie downs. I don't see how that will help as the problem isn't the awning lifting off the ground, but merely the poles reducing in length because the clamps are not strong enough.

I've ordered a pyramid tie down kit and will try the replacement clamps for the next trip at Whitson. I'll be happy, surprised if it's any better.
