I'm new to caravanning and need to by an awning. Shopping about and wondered if there were any negative points about Pyramid awnings.

We are on a budget and can get the Tuscany or Corsican for about £300 which appears reasonable.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi,

We bought one last year and after a hard night raining in France, the alu roof poles were bent. Other than that it looks good and for the time we use it, good value. very much you get what you pay for!

Cheers Jim

Graeme,

I bought a Corsican last year -the largest size i think, 1080. The quality is not the same as our previous Dorema but it was more than half the price of the Dorema and Bradcotts. So, I figured that if it lasted half the life time I would be happy.

We were woken by a loud bang last summer! It was raining and the roof had collapsed. Nice size dent in the side of our new van as well!

In my view the span between the between the roof supports is too great and a design fault. I complained to Pyramid and in fairness they sent me two extra sets of roof support poles without any quibbles (although they were not interested in the damage to the van). Also in an attempt to get the maximum tension to stop the roof collapsing again I managed stretch the fabric.

So the old adage applies; you gets what you pay for.

If you do buy a Pyramid and it's large one, don't contemplate getting the lighter carbon fibre poles as they simply will not be strong enough.

We are on our 2nd Tuscany awning - there was nothing wrong with the first one, we just bought a bigger caravan.

We suffered some pretty horrible weather last year in Wales and it stood up admirably, I would recommend getting the optional storm straps, but then I am sure you would need them for any full awning.

Our 09 Tuscany does appear to have better zips than our 07 one did so this great value awning just gets better and better.

One word of note is that our 09 one did not come with any peg ladders, Pyramid use a new easy tightening system instead which are great for grass, but I don't think they would be any good on a hard standing as they are plastic, so I just phoned Pyramid up and they sent me a set of standard ladders so we now have the best of both worlds. I would check when you order.

In essence, I cannot see the point in spending double on a similar awning from the more well known manufacturers.

We've had a Pyramid for our 8m Van for 2.5 years.

It was great Value for Money, even including Ally poles with which I had no problems.

I've had the same problem with the roof as others in this thread. Rain puddles on the roof and could potentially bring the whole awning down. I have 2 extra roof poles but I think the more you can add the better.

I would recommend to anyone on a tight budget, but if you have deeper pockets then I'd suggest spending your hard earned on better quality.

Hi,

Bought a Pyramid Corsican for our new van and used it for the first time last week - had a partial collapse due to High Winds & Heavy Rain which bent a Sun Shade Pole.

Phoned Pyramid yesterday to see if I could order a new pole - they are sending me one FOC (even though I admitted it was my fault as I hadn't tightened things up enough)- Great Service considering the purchase price !

I too was on a budget and I think they are great value for money.

Jon
