Quality Rear Cycle Rack For VW Touran? 3/4 bikes

Afternoon Steven,

I purchased a "Thule" bike rack that mounts on the towbar, it can hold up to 3 bikes. Very good quality and stability, with a nice fit and spacing for the bikes.

Thanks

Rob.

Hello Steve,

If you use a rear mounted bike rack that takes any support from the tow bracket, you must subtract the weight of the rack and bikes from the available nose load limit of the car if you intend tow at the same time.

eg. for a typical car nose load limit 75Kg

Bikes and rack 40Kg

remaining Nose load allowance for caravan 35Kg

Thai may be insufficient for safe towing.

For carrying bikes when not towing the Thule Tow ball fitting racks are great. We too have the 3 bike carrier and it comes complete with the lights and number plate area. Expensive, but you get what you pay for these days. Expect to pay just of

I presume your Touran has a removeable tow ball and in that case the Thule would be a very good choice. I have one that I use on my X5. If however you have a fixed tow ball, I think that Witter do a bike rack that you can attach to a special fitting so that you can carry bikes even when towing. I had one on my Shogun and it worked very well.
