I'm now on my second Quashqai and the only reason I changed my 2004 plate with the 2.0lt 150hp engine was because of the low braked towing weight which 1400kg, I now have a 2014 plate Quashqai with a braked towing weight of 1800kg all very well but why put a 1.6 engine at 130 hp in?. When I saw the Caravan Channel at the towing car awards when the Quasqai took the honours in 2014 for the best towing car and the representative from Nissan said that they had been all down through the Alps loaded up to the dogs doo-dahs and it was an absolutely brilliant towing car, I said yippee I want one. Sorry Nissan the engine in this car although it does the job is no where near the same towing vehicle like my 2004 Quashqai and I certainly would not go anywhere near mid or north wales with this car loaded to the max. I have already asked Nissan customer services if I could have a copy of their report on this test run when the went on their jolly down to the Alps,

I downsized from a 1.9 ltr 150PS Vectra to a 1.7 ltr 130PS Astra and got significantly worse fuel consumption because of having to use the gears more (mpg dropped from 35mpg towing to 26 mpg). It was noticeably more sluggish than the Vectra and tiring to drive so I have changed back up to a 2 ltr 170PS Insignia. Excellent decision, relaxing drive and don't need to change out of top gear motorway driving. Increased mpg as well, back to Vectra figures.
