Hi Chris ,i am booked in at Lucksall caravan park from this Saturday onwards ,i called the site and they said they are not turning vans away at the moment ,but what are the approach roads around Hereford like at the moment .
Yes I'm ok thank you Maureen, my place is too high for the floods to affect us. If the water reached our bungalow I'm afraid Hereford city would be submerged and all that would be showing is the towers of the cathedral and churches.
Joby if you remind me later in the week I will check it out for you but I do know the road between Lucksall and Hereford is closed at Hampton Bishop. It's not the Wye thats over the banks but the Lugg that joins it at Mordiford. Yesterday I went over the Wye Bridge to my daughters and was surprised that it was about 2 feet below the bank. The main offenders are the Lugg and brooks like the Eign and Yazor that flow through Hereford. I haven't been out to have a look where its flooded because the police are warning people not to go rubber necking. I think you come in on the B4224 from the Travellers Rest at Ross and I believe that is o.k.
I don't fancy your chances of catching much though jobe :O(
Just heard this morning (Tuesday) that Hampton Bishop and the Moon at Mordiford is still closed. It also said that the waters elsewhere were beginning to recede and more roads are opening. Unofficially I was told once the water drops Mordiford bridge will remain closed until it had been tested structurally. As you know, the Wye is a spate river and goes down as fast as it rises so by Saturday it could be fishable hopefully :O)
Lucksall did flood this week. I enclose a pic from the Hereford Times. Karen said they expect to open by the weekend. The caravans belong to the seasonal pitchers. I went over the river today on my way to my daughters and it's gone down a lot. By the weekend I would think, provided they don't release water from the dams, it will be excellent for fishing. If you do go just watch where you tread mate cos the banks will be slippy.
