Question for lorry drivers

Hi

I was travelling behind a big lorry which I think had two rear doors. Anyway, the doors or door was open and there was an overhang of whatever he was carrying (looked like wooden pallets) which protruded about 3ft out of the rear of the lorry. The load which overhung was covered with like a green plastic type material.

Is this legal?

As long as you dont go over the max length you are ok. If if the total length is over the max length then you need a permit to be on the road. same as width but then you need an escort vehicle with you

(I dont know what the max length is)

i have been asked to do this on occasion but ive refused because the strain on the door hinges from the force of the slipstream, its ok strapping the doors back but there will still be strain on the doors
