Stabilisers - just been through the long thread on the 'active' stabilisers. Can you say if the Straightliner is classed as active please ?
Thank you. I did not know if the 'damper' pushing the roller against the cams made t active.No, the Straightliner is a passive stabiliser, just like the AlKo/Winterhoff or all blade types. The only difference is that it relies on viscous rather than frictional damping of the others. It suffers from the same shortcomings as any passive stabiliser in that it only stiffens the joint between car and caravan. If the forces creating instability exceed its frictional or viscous resistance providing the stiffness, the stabiliser has reached the limit of its capability, which may be inadequate in the case of severe swaying.
Active systems do not stiffen the joint between car and caravan and only deploy when they sense excessive sideways movement. In other words they effectively switch themselves on and off.
