hi Lutz,Rob.

Do you have any thoughts on the best way through Germany to the CZ republic we are going to Prague on Friday from Amsterdam (ferry Newcastle/Amsterdam). Looking at the routes (michelin) it would appear that Nurnberg is a better option than heading for Dresden??. Our sat nav does not have the CZ Republic, but I have done the route before and Dreaden down to Prague is not that clever, until you get near to the outskirts of Prague. We are driving solo, and will be returning via Dover/Calais (two dogs) so no long ferry crossings. Any thoughts would be welcome

regards

It's a swings and roundabouts situation, Frank. Although the road from Dresden to Prague is notoriously slow (I haven't been on it myself but it's often mentioned on traffic reports because of heavy lorry traffic) at least the non-motorway section there is "only" about 80km of the total. I presume that if were planning to go this way it would be via Hannover, Magdeburg, Leipzig.

The last bit of the alternative route via Nuremberg from the German border to Prague should be quicker than from Dresden but, on the other hand, the autobahns especially around W

Thanks Lutz,

I will go Dresden at least from there to Prague is downhill!!! even though it is a little slow with some real heavy lorries, they seem to be a lot bigger than here in the UK. We will go Magdeburg, Leipzig that's the route I took last time, coming out of Amsterdam to Osnabruk.

Thanks again Lutz it's nice to have had my thoughts confirmed.
