I’ve had a full patio gas cylinder given to me which uses a clip on regulator. For my Cadac I’ve tended to use the Camping Gaz cylinders to date. They use a screw in regulator. But it could be advantageous to be able to change between cylinders without having to prize hoses off of fir trees and undo pipe clips. So I’ve been looking at quick release connectors like the one shown below. This is from a reputable gas supplies company as opposed to those just marketed on sites like Amazon or EBay where the provenance may not be certain.

Has anyone used such parts and with what results?

Hi Clive,

Ive been using these for a good few years now, can swop between van and home bbq and have a longer hose as well for the van, just fit your own hose.
Quick Release

looks like it the same company you been looking at.

I am not familiar with this connector, so I don't know if it is fully approved for use. It is essential that both halves of the connector should seal the pipe when they're disconnected.

Also you must ensure that the regulators provide the correct pressure for the system the pipes are connected to.

Cadac do their own Quick release coupling LINK.

My van's BBQ point has a Reich brand quick release coupling that in our case has seen 14 years of use.
Here and with the Cadac there is no sealing of the uncoupled downstream half that the Prof claims is essential, and I can't see why in these mono flow direction applications there is that need.

The technology is decades old, but I suppose the root concern is if any unknown brand has the build quality it should have.

Who "fully approves " such fittings for use? I'm not certain that I have come across any such approvals, other than they would normally have a EN designator on the label. But having recently returned some LED 240v lights CE marked and double insulated marked but that failed the "eye ball test" even to my untrained electrical eye. Anyone can put markings on a product. Saying that I do buy my regulators from well established maker and specialist outlets. .

I think I have been using leisure gas appliances with caravans, camping and BBQ long enough to be aware of the pressure requirements of the appliance-regulator, set up. The Camping Gas R-series refillable bottles are butane and use a Type 794 screw down regulator at 29mb. The Calor Patio gas bottles are propane and use a clip on regulator at37mb, so not much chance of getting the regulators mixed up. The Cadac is good for butane 27-30mb, and Propane 37mb.

Thank you for that information, I had not appreciated that Cadac did their own parts.

My Bailey was supplied with the quick release BBQ male and female bit. Exactly like the one Kev shows. Been in use for 12 years no problems or leaks. They sell them at our local caravan dealer.Hopefully they wouldn’t sell non compliant gas parts🤔🤔. I’m sure you will have no problems Clive.

CE markings are another can of worms. It depends on the area of operation as to the way CE marks can be (legally) applied. For gas related items, the appliance of fitting has to be approved by an independent approvals laboratory, and the CE mark should be accompanied by the type approval reference. Most electrical fittings can be CE marked on the basis the manufacturer claims (not proves) to follow the necessary EU provisions for the part of appliance.

However in gas terms I know there have been several illegal imports of parts or fittings which carry a CE mark that has been illegally applied, and some of these are highly dangerous because the wrong materials have been used.

Buy gas fittings from reputable dealers. - I'd also suggest do the same for electricals also.

You can buy the quick release connectors at Go Outdoors.

I found one of the other more generic female quick release coupling perfectly mated with the Cadac's male, so avoided buying their more expensive complete coupling, and using a cheaper one for my spare gas bottle's hose. I suspect there is little unique in the Cadac's male nozzle itself, just the left-handed nut, which I did not need to duplicate, it's just the female I needed more than one off.

Then the Cadac one can be purchased cheaper than the example I flagged

Edit: I have just twigged I did not "waste" the male end of the generic coupling, its on the other end of that hose to the female, and fits in my van's BBQ point, that's where it went. It's the spare portable bottle's hose with the pretty Cadac female.

I had obviously satisfied myself this cross matching was safe with the bits I had, others would need to have the similar competence level.

I've got the quick releases-we have house type calor cylinders,-same as the van a patio gas and have bought spare regulators for both-put a quick release connector on our cadac and the house bbq so can use either type of gas on either of the bbqs-VERY effective!
