Hi Everyone.

Being a keen listener to Radio5 I have just lately noted on the traffic reports that quite a few touring caravans have been involved in accidents ie; turning over in the road, now I,m wondering are these caravans being towed to fast are they not loaded correctly are tyres not up to scratch or are they not serviced regularly?as I have said there has been a spate of these accidents which I am sure the Top Gear programme would like to make something of,Incidentally I am a caravanner of 30plus years, your views please.Jim

I had seen about 4 cars on the M1 which had punctures today. Not on one stretch but in both directions. It is possibly due to the hot weather. The tyres heat up with friction from the road but as the surface temp could be upto 80 Degrees C it will push the tyre pressure up to a point where a blow out could happen. You should check your pressures before going out as you might have to lower your pressures to get them at the correct pressure !!!

Jim, could be any one or combination of more points which you raise which may be the cause of those accidents, plus of course, throw in the being cut up by other drivers, not leaving enough gap between the car in front, sudden braking or manoeuvering ,the list goes on.

I raised a similar question on this Forum months ago. Most relevant reply was that it takes some time to clear up the debris after a caravan accident, so they tend to make the traffic reports more often. Fair point, I suppose - but it doesn't explain why there are so (too?) many caravan accidents. It makes me paranoid, to some extent.

What I'd like to see, is some analysis of the causes of these accidents. Was it speed/other drivers/incorrect loading/wrong towcar combination/raod conditions/draughting/etc??? At least we could learn from others' misfortune.
