(why bother puting a seal on then?)has anyone else had this problem if so how did they solve it,the seal looks ok, but we will get a new one, once I get this one off and take it to the dealers. thanks for any help or tips.

Silly question I know but.... Do you keep the locker lid locked at all times? I didnt for the first few trips in the new (to us) van and found that it let loads of water in. But keeping it locked all the time pushed the door into the seal more and solved the problem.

I found that the water in my locker was getting in through the hinges. this was repaired by siliconing around the head of the screws inside the locker which has seemed to have cured it [3 months ago]

Yes I always lock the locker, this happened when the van was on the drive, all locked up, but it was at a time of heavy rain, I am now waiting to see if it happens again, thanks for the reply, all suggestions will be helpful.

Shiba,

I have been told on more than one occasion (usually when picking up a new 'van) that the lockers are not stated by the manufacturer as being watertight!!!

Hi Neal, we were told the same thing, it's just this is the first Van we have had that has let the rain in the locker, so was wondering if there was something we could do to stop it happening, someone somewhere must have solved the problem. ( I hope so )

Try forming the seal into a kind of 'Gutter', I used some Superglue to stick it. Form a channel so that the water runs along the top of the seal and down the sides and hopefully out the bottom.

Also bend the lock catches to make sure it closes at tight as possible.

It improved it a bit on my caravan, (not completely though)

The rubber seal round locker openings has matal insert. Pull it off - gently - and clean it and then replace using some silicone sealant round the lip. You may need to compress the slot in the rubber seal so you get a positive engagement when you put it back. (This is easier to do than to describe). Also this seal should be one piece. I've seen some whiche were not, with the joint at the top in the middle which is a prime source for leaks.

On some makes you can adjust the engagement of the locker lid locks to ensure you get a really good "pull down" onto this seal - perhaps worth a look.

Is water coming in when stationary or when you are on the road.

If when on the road, it may be coming via vents for gas bottles and loose fitting floor tray in the locker.

we found the water when the van had been standing on the drive, so we think it is the seal which is not up to the job, although it looks ok, thanks for the reply another idea for my list.

I have a 2004 Heritage and whilst the locker box is excellent in most ways it does have a leak problem. My dealer did put spacers in the hinges which were supposed to solve the problem but made it worse. Have tried silicone sealant but that also seemed to make it worse!

I know that lockers are not supposed to be waterproof but a few drops is acceptable but last weekend I poured out more than a pint of water from a plastic storage box in the front, and the caravan has not been moved off my drive since end of June. My wellies, when I forget to put them in upside down have been waterlogged several times!!

Does not seem to be much of an answer for Fleetwood owners as I have tried most of the suggested remedies without success. Have decided to just accept it until I change the van again and hope it doesn't rain too much, though in Wales that is asking a bit too much.

Oh dear, I hope we have better luck, I love the Van and this is the only snag so far (fingers crossed) I have not seen any posts from Volante ownwers yet this Van was said to be a real winner when it came out in 2003,so much so they have now upgraded the layout to the Heritage Range,If there is anyone out there with a Volante I would like to hear their comments on this Van I fell in love with it as soon as I saw the twin beds at the back and the washroom across the middle of the Van, this layout is the best I have seen and used in twenty years of buying Vans, so much so we part exchanged a 12 month old van for the Volante,2003. no regrets so far, (again fingers crossed.)
