re-fuelling recommendations on M1

Any advice on ease of fuel access at either Watford Gap, Northampton or Newport Pagnell? Will be requiring fuel at approx 4am at one of these.

I don't have intimate knowledge of every service area on the M1, but I have never ever had a problem on the motorway network. The areas you cite are close enough to each other that you can move on to the next one if you think you've got a problem.

I sometimes use my local Tesco Express when hitched, and I enjoy the challenge. I know there might be the odd service area in the UK with tight turns and funny angles, but 99.9% likely you'll be OK.
